This project involved the complete transformation and renovation of a 1950’s bungalow into a stunning piece of modernist architecture. The design took advantage of an existing undercroft at the rear of the house, allowing for a new double height open plan living room, that lead onto a huge terrace it coastal views.

Large structural glass rooflights over the kitchen and hallway allow natural daylight to flood in from above. A brown roof to the main house, replaced a conventional tiled pitch roof. A new annexe at the front of the house provided private accommodation for the client’s teenage daughter.

The design retains over 80% of the load bearing structure of the original house, this represents a considerable saving in embodied carbon over a new house of an equivalent size.
