WETWOOD ROUGH

Chiddingford

Surrey

Wetwood Rough responds to the pasture land it sits within. The site was originally surrounded by tall grass that swayed in the breeze, evoking the movement of water. The house was conceived in 2 parts explore this notion.

The main 2 storey element pushes out into the sea of grass like a boat. The 2 single-storey elements anchor the boat to it’s moorings, forming the main entrance.

Floor to ceiling glazing offers expansive views of the surrounding natural landscape and clear night’s sky. One is always aware or the time of day and the passing of the seasons.

A outdoor terrace extends over a naturally formed pool at the rear of the property, where the owners can bathe in southlight or descend into the cooling waters for a wild swim.
