ENVIRONMENT + STRUCTURE

Smith Maloney Hillier offer integrated structural and building services engineering. We recognise that the highest quality sustainable design can only be achieved if environmental and structural concepts are developed in tandem with architectural aspirations.

Our design philosophy is to push towards maximum efficiency and minimal waste. We seek to minimise unnecessary redundancy in the structure, and keep the energy demands for heating, lighting and ventilation as low as possible.

We work collaboratively with our architectural colleagues to ensure the structural and services designs are carefully co-ordinated. We help to inform the building fabric strategy so that thermal performance and airtightness requirements can be met without sacrificing architectural design aspirations.

Early engineering input in the design process can help to minimise embodied carbon, reduce build and life cycle costs, and ensure that architectural, structural and service design elements are cohesive and integrated.
